About this award

You can receive $10,000.00. This is a scholarship, not a loan, so you do not have to pay it back. This is for you if you are a student leader who uses your practical skills to make a tangible difference in your community or on campus. You must apply by February 12, 2027. When you apply, ask NAIT (Northern Alberta Institute of Technology) how and when you will hear back — whether it is through email, the portal, or by phone. NAIT's official page says how this award is decided (see Who qualifies). Ask NAIT how many students usually qualify, so you can judge your odds. Ask NAIT during your application how the money will reach you — some awards pay students directly, others apply funds to tuition. Confirm this so you can plan your cash flow. Renewal conditions aren't listed because you may only receive the award once. If you have questions about future eligibility, confirm with NAIT.

Who qualifies

You must be a full-time student enrolled in any year or period of a degree, diploma, certificate, or apprentice program at NAIT (Northern Alberta Institute of Technology). You must also maintain satisfactory academic standing. If you are enrolled in a co-op program, you are still eligible to apply. However, please note that any activities you completed as part of a co-op or other Work Integrated Learning (WIL — programs that combine classroom learning with practical experience in a professional setting) experiences, such as clinical, field, or professional practice placements, will not be considered in your evaluation.

This is what the award's official page said when we last checked. Rules change, so confirm on the award's official page before you apply.

Tips for applying

  • Personal StatementAvoid writing a general list of your duties. Instead, use specific examples and measurable outcomes to show the tangible, lasting change your actions created in your community.
  • ReferencesAvoid providing a contact without briefing them first. Instead, ensure you advise your referee about the specific leadership and citizenship criteria for this award so they can write a targeted letter.
  • StrategyAvoid including your co-op or internship achievements in your statement. Instead, focus on your voluntary service and leadership roles that happened outside of your required professional placements.
  • RealismAvoid assuming that being in a high-profile role automatically wins the award. Instead, emphasize the "Applied Contribution" by showing how you used hands-on skills to solve a real problem for others.
