The Garry and Pat Meadus Female Leadership Award

What you will need

• ✓ Completed General Application via the NAIT (Northern Alberta Institute of Technology) awards portal

About this award

You get a $500.00 grant, which is a scholarship and not a loan, so you do not have to pay it back. It is payment. This is for you if you are a female student athlete who demonstrates exceptional leadership qualities both on and off the competition surface. The deadline to be considered is February 12, 2027. Since you are automatically considered through your general application, ask NAIT (Northern Alberta Institute of Technology) how and when you will be notified if you win. Selection is handled automatically by the school based on your completed General Application. Only one female student athlete will receive this award, so ask NAIT how they evaluate leadership and work ethic to judge your odds. Ask NAIT during your application how the money will reach you — some awards pay students directly, others apply funds to tuition. Confirm this so you can plan your cash flow. Renewal conditions aren't listed — if you're counting on this for multiple years, confirm with NAIT whether it's one-time or renewable and what you need to maintain.

Who qualifies

You must be a female student athlete who demonstrates exceptional leadership qualities on and off the competition surface. You must show commitment, dedication, strong leadership skills, and a work ethic that motivates your teammates.

• LeadershipAvoid just listing the sports you play. Instead, describe a specific time your leadership motivated your teammates to improve. Give a concrete example of your work ethic in action.
• SupportAvoid leaving your General Application incomplete. Instead, ensure every section of your profile is detailed and updated. Double-check that your athletic involvement is clearly documented.
• StrategyAvoid waiting for a separate application form. Instead, focus your effort on making your NAIT (Northern Alberta Institute of Technology) General Application as strong as possible, as this is the only way you are considered.
• RealismAvoid assuming this is a guaranteed award. Instead, remember that only one student is selected for this $500.00 prize. Keep looking for other bursaries to diversify your funding.
