About this award

You can receive a $750 grant to help cover the costs of starting your new employment as an apprentice. This is a grant, not a loan, so you do not have to pay it back. This is for you if you are a woman entering the skilled trades and want help reducing the financial barriers that come with starting a new apprenticeship. The funding is available until March 2027, though it may end sooner if the money runs out. Since the Nova Scotia Apprenticeship Agency contacts eligible women directly after registration, ask them when you can expect to receive your application form. Selection criteria aren't published — ask Nova Scotia Apprenticeship Agency how winners are chosen and roughly how many applicants they typically receive so you can judge your odds. Ask Nova Scotia Apprenticeship Agency during your application how the money will reach you — some awards pay students directly, others apply funds to tuition. Confirm this so you can plan your cash flow. Renewal conditions aren't listed — if you're counting on this for multiple years, confirm with Nova Scotia Apprenticeship Agency whether it's one-time or renewable and what you need to maintain.

Tips for applying

  • ApplicationAvoid waiting for the agency to call you if you have questions. Instead, proactively email WiT@novascotia.ca to confirm your registration is processed correctly. This ensures you are on their radar for the incentive.
  • SupportAvoid assuming your employer handles the paperwork. Instead, keep a personal record of your registration date with the Nova Scotia Apprenticeship Agency. Having your own timestamp prevents delays in your application.
  • StrategyAvoid ignoring the March 2027 deadline. Instead, apply as soon as you are contacted because the funds are first-come, first-served and may run out early. Check your email and voicemail daily after registering.
  • RealismAvoid relying on this as your only source of startup funding. Instead, treat this $750 as a helpful supplement for tools or gear. Research other provincial grants for apprentices to maximize your support.
