FANS (Financial Assistance for Nunavut Students) was rebuilt for 2025-26. If you have lived in Nunavut for 12 months, it covers tuition up to $10,000 and books up to $2,500 a year, monthly living costs, a return trip to school each year, and a disability grant of up to $20,000. For Nunavut Inuit the tuition, books and living support is a grant; for other residents it is a remissible loan. Apply at least 8 weeks before your program ends, and reapply every year. Federal IPSE funding through Kakivak, Kivalliq or Kitikmeot can add more for Inuit students.

Nunavut residents (12 months minimum) going to Nunavut Arctic College, Nunavut Sivuniksavut in Ottawa, or any designated post-secondary program of at least 12 weeks.
FANS Financial Assistance for Nunavut Students
Apply through the Government of Nunavut Department of Education (fans@gov.nu.ca, 1-877-860-0680). Apply at least 8 weeks before your program's end date. You can apply before you are accepted, and you must reapply every academic year. The old fixed deadlines (March 1, July 15 and November 15) were cancelled for 2025-26.
Who can get it
- Canadian citizen or permanent resident
- Lived in Nunavut for at least 12 months before applying
- Enrolled full-time or part-time in a designated program of at least 12 weeks
What it pays
The Government of Nunavut's 2025-26 structure:
- Travel: one return trip a year between home and school for full-time students and their dependants.
- Disability grant: up to $20,000.
- Tuition: up to $10,000 a year full-time, $5,000 part-time.
- Books: up to $2,500 a year full-time, $1,250 part-time.
- Living costs: a monthly base and housing amount. For a single student studying in the south it is $770 plus $2,185 a month.
For Nunavut Inuit, tuition, books and living costs are a grant, plus holiday travel and living payments that start two weeks before classes and end two weeks after. For other residents they are a remissible loan, and you can choose a smaller amount.
FANS scholarships
Full-time FANS students can also receive $500 for an 80% or higher Grade 12 average from a Nunavut secondary school, $750 for an A average in an undergraduate year, $1,000 a year in a master's program and $1,500 a year in a doctoral program.
Federal Inuit Post-Secondary Education program (IPSE)
IPSE is administered through your Regional Inuit Organization. Eligible expenses include tuition, travel, childcare, and textbooks. Each region runs its own application.
Kakivak Association (Baffin region)
Internet up to $150 a month, laptop reimbursement up to $1,500, a weekly training allowance of $337.50 for full-time students without other sponsors, childcare support, and disability-related funding for cognitive testing and counselling.
Kivalliq Inuit Association
Tuition, books, childcare, training allowance, student fees, and internet costs.
Kitikmeot Inuit Association
Tuition, books, fees, living allowance based on family size, rent support, childcare, relocation, computer assistance up to $1,000, and internet costs.
Nunavut Arctic College
Nunavut Arctic College is the territory's public college with campuses across Nunavut. The College administers entrance awards and continuing awards across trades, health, education, and Inuit Studies programs. FANS covers tuition up to $10,000 a year, which for Nunavut Inuit is a grant.
Nunavut Sivuniksavut
Nunavut Sivuniksavut in Ottawa offers one- and two-year certificate programs designed for Inuit youth. NS partners with FANS, IPSE, and the Regional Inuit Organizations to assemble full funding stacks for incoming students. Apply by listing "Algonquin College - Nunavut Sivuniksavut" on your FANS application.

- Nunavut Tunngavik Incorporated: education and training programs for beneficiaries.
- Indspire: national funding with Nunavut-eligible awards. August 1 is the typical deadline each year, so if it has gone by, plan for the next annual round.
