About this award

Depending on which award you win, you can receive $30,000 or $40,000 over four years. Specifically, the George and Marsha Ivany President’s First & Best Scholarship provides $10,000 per year for four years. The Chancellors’ Scholarships and the University of Saskatchewan Entrance Scholarships both provide $7,500 per year for four years. This is a scholarship, not a loan, so you do not have to pay it back. This is for you if you are an Indigenous student who has shown strong academics, leadership, and a commitment to your school and community. You must submit your application for admission by December 1 and your scholarship application by December 15. You will hear back via email between January and late February. Note that only the students selected for an award will receive a notification. Winners are chosen based on their academic record, leadership, and contributions to school and community life. The application form includes short- and long-answer questions, so give yourself lots of time to complete it. Ask University of Saskatchewan during your application how the money will reach you — some awards pay students directly, others apply funds to tuition. Confirm this so you can plan your cash flow. These are renewable entrance scholarships. Renewal conditions aren't listed — if you're counting on this for multiple years, confirm with University of Saskatchewan what you need to maintain to keep the funding.

Who qualifies

This award is for incoming students. Five of the Best and Brightest awards are designated as Circle of Honour Awards for Indigenous students. Specifically, one George and Marsha Ivany President's First and Best Scholarship, two Chancellors' Scholarships, and two University of Saskatchewan Entrance Scholarships are Circle of Honour awards, and these are preferentially awarded to Indigenous students.

Tips for applying

  • ApplicationAvoid writing your long-answer responses directly into the portal. Instead, draft and save your answers in a separate document first. This prevents you from losing your work if the session times out.
  • SupportAvoid waiting until the last minute to request your records. Instead, contact your school or the Ministry of Education immediately. Ensure your transcripts arrive at the Admissions Office before the December 1 deadline.
  • StrategyAvoid treating the admission and scholarship applications as one task. Instead, remember they have different deadlines. Submit your admission application by December 1 so you can focus on the scholarship form by December 15.
  • RealismAvoid expecting a response if you aren't selected. Instead, keep looking for other funding options while you wait. Since University of Saskatchewan only notifies winners, no news by late February means you did not receive the award.
