About this award

You can receive up to $50,000 over four years of study. This is a scholarship, not a loan, so you do not have to pay it back. You may get up to $20,000 in the first year, and the award is renewable for $10,000 in your second, third, and fourth years. This is for you if you are an international student with a strong academic record applying to the University of Toronto's Faculty of Arts & Science. There is no separate application: you are considered automatically when you apply to the Faculty of Arts & Science. Winners are chosen automatically based on your grades at the time of admission to the Faculty of Arts & Science. The number of awards is not published. Ask University of Toronto during your application how the money will reach you — some awards pay students directly, others apply funds to tuition. Confirm this so you can plan your cash flow. To keep this award, you must meet renewal conditions. Renewal conditions aren't listed — if you're counting on this for multiple years, confirm with University of Toronto what you need to maintain to get the $10,000 payments in years two, three, and four.

Who qualifies

You must be an international student who demonstrates academic merit. U of T counts you as a domestic student, not an international one, if you are a Canadian citizen; a First Nations, Métis or Inuit person; a permanent resident, protected person or Convention refugee; or approved in principle for permanent residence.
