About this award

You can receive a total of $40,000, paid as $10,000 per year for up to 4 years. This is a scholarship, not a loan, so you do not have to pay it back. The maximum length of the award is 4 academic years or until you receive your first degree, whichever happens first. This is for you if you are a high-achieving international student moving from a high school or transferring from an international college or university into a degree program. There is no scholarship deadline: you are considered automatically when you apply for admission for 2027-2028, and the offer is included in your Letter of Acceptance. You are automatically considered for this award based on the Canadian equivalent of the average used for your admission. The number of scholarships is unlimited, so every admitted student in this average band receives one. The money is applied to your tuition. If you take Lakehead University's Academic English Program first, the scholarship does not cover that program; it is applied to your first-year degree tuition once you have completed it. To keep the full $10,000 annual amount, you must achieve a 90% average in each academic year. If your university average falls between 80.0% and 89.9%, you will receive an amended scholarship valued at $7,500 CAD per year for the remaining term. If your status changes and you are charged domestic fees, Lakehead University will reassess your award value to match the domestic entrance scholarship rules.

You must be a non-Canadian citizen entering Years 1, 2, or 3 of a minimum 4-year undergraduate degree program at Lakehead University. You qualify if you have an Academic Average (Canadian Equivalent) of 90.0% or more, or an IB (International Baccalaureate — a global standardized curriculum) average of 35 or more.
