About this award

Typically, you can receive one $1,000 scholarship awarded annually. This is a scholarship, not a loan, so you do not have to pay it back. Note that the donor reserves the right to change how often the award is given or the amount based on income levels and the capacity of the CFNS (the Community Foundation of Nova Scotia — the organization that manages the fund). This is for you if you are a student who focuses on leading with kindness and making a positive impact on others during the "in-between" moments of life, such as the time between classes, lunch, or practices. You must apply by April 15. When you apply, ask the Community Foundation of Nova Scotia how and when you will hear back — whether by email, phone, or a portal. Selection is based on the extent to which you embody a determination to consciously act with kindness toward others during the unplanned moments of your day. Selection criteria aren't published — ask the Community Foundation of Nova Scotia how winners are chosen and roughly how many applicants they typically receive so you can judge your odds. Ask the Community Foundation of Nova Scotia during your application how the money will reach you — some awards pay students directly, others apply funds to tuition. Confirm this so you can plan your cash flow. Renewal conditions aren't listed — if you're counting on this for multiple years, confirm with the Community Foundation of Nova Scotia whether it's one-time or renewable and what you need to maintain.
