What you will need

  • Completed application for admission to University of Winnipeg by the deadline for your start term (there is no separate scholarship application)
  • Your Grade 12 grades from a high school outside Canada, which UWinnipeg converts to a Canadian average
  • Full-time registration in the required credit hours for your start term

About this award

You receive $2,000 if your converted average falls between 90.0% and 94.9%. This is a scholarship, not a loan, so you do not have to pay it back. This is for you if you are a high-achieving international student moving from a high school outside of Canada to begin your undergraduate degree. Your deadline depends on when you start: complete your admission application by October 15 for a Winter 2027 start or February 15 for a Spring 2027 start (the Fall 2026 deadline, extended to June 15, has passed). The university says these dates can change to match international admission deadlines. You will receive a conditional offer shortly after the deadline, and you'll be notified of your final value after your first term begins. University of Winnipeg automatically reviews your application for admission to determine if you qualify. Selection is based on your converted grade average, though the university does not publish the exact number of awards given—ask University of Winnipeg how many students typically receive this scholarship to gauge your odds. The total amount is applied directly to your tuition account during your first term of study. This means the money goes to the school to lower your bill rather than being sent to your bank account. You must register and stay in full-time studies during the academic year to keep the money. If you fall below full-time registration, University of Winnipeg may take back all or part of the scholarship.

Who qualifies

You qualify if you are an international student entering undergraduate studies at University of Winnipeg after graduating from a high school outside of Canada. You must have the equivalent of a Canadian 90.0-94.9% grade average based on your Grade 12 academic courses for this $2,000 amount (the scholarship starts at 85%, which earns $1,000). You cannot have attended any other post-secondary institution, unless it was for dual credit high school courses. You must complete your admission application no more than 6 months after you graduate high school. To keep the award, you must maintain full-time registration: at least 9 credit hours in both fall and winter terms for a Fall start; 9 credit hours in the winter term for a Winter start; or 6 credit hours of 6-8 weeks duration in the spring term for a Spring start. Note that you can only receive one University of Winnipeg entrance award, and this scholarship cannot be used with the President's Scholarship for World Leaders.

Tips for applying

  • ApplicationAvoid waiting until the last minute to submit your admission form. Instead, apply as early as possible since the scholarship is tied to the regular admissions process. Submit your application well before the June, October, or February deadlines.
  • TranscriptsAvoid assuming your home country's average is the same as the Canadian equivalent. Instead, email intladmissions@uwinnipeg.ca with your full name and student number to ask how your specific grades are converted. This helps you understand your actual eligibility.
  • RealismAvoid relying on this as your only source of funding. Instead, look for other bursaries since you can only hold one entrance award at University of Winnipeg. If you get more than one University of Winnipeg award offer, you will receive only the one with the greatest value.
