About this award

You get $7,500 for the duration of your undergraduate career. This is a scholarship, not a loan, so you do not have to pay it back. This is for you if you are a student from southeastern Manitoba who is passionate about the humanities or social sciences and needs financial support to pursue your degree. You must apply for admission to the university by March 1, 2027. When you apply, ask University of Winnipeg how and when you will hear back — whether by email, the portal, or phone. Selection is competitive. Since specific selection criteria aren't published, ask University of Winnipeg how winners are chosen and roughly how many applicants they typically receive so you can judge your odds. Ask University of Winnipeg during your application how the money will reach you — some awards pay students directly, others apply funds to tuition. Confirm this so you can plan your cash flow. To keep this award for a maximum of 4 years, you must maintain a 3.0 GPA (Grade Point Average — the numerical average of your final grades) in full-time studies and continue to show financial need. Confirm with University of Winnipeg if there are any other renewal conditions.

  • SupportAvoid using references who only know you casually. Instead, ask a teacher or community leader who can speak to your character and your resilience in the face of financial hardship. Provide their direct contact information.
  • StrategyAvoid waiting until the last minute to apply for admission. Instead, submit your university application well before the March 1 deadline. This ensures you are automatically considered for the award through your General Application.
  • RealismAvoid assuming the award is guaranteed because you meet the 80% average. Instead, remember that this is a competitive process. Apply for other bursaries at University of Winnipeg to diversify your funding options.
