Trent In-Course Bursary

What you will need

• ✓ Complete an application via the myTrent student portal at the beginning of each term
• ✓ Be receiving OSAP, Canada part-time student loans, First Nations band funding, or your home province's government student aid (out-of-province students must provide the assessment notice from their province's student aid program)
• ✓ Declare all your resources, including money from parents, scholarships, awards and employment earnings

About this award

The amount depends on your need. Under Trent's bursary policy, a bursary is at least your tuition and book shortfall (what OSAP and your own resources leave unpaid) or $100, whichever is more, and Trent's Financial Aid office sets the maximum each year. As a bursary, this money is yours to keep and you do not have to pay it back. This is for you if you are a Canadian citizen, permanent resident or protected person in an undergraduate degree program at Trent, you receive government student aid, and you still need money for your studies or for unexpected expenses. You apply each term: the application is posted in the myTrent student portal at the start of every term, so check the portal early in the term for that term's deadline. Trent's Financial Aid office works out your need: you must declare all your resources, including money from parents, scholarships, awards and job earnings, and these are compared with your OSAP application. Ask Trent University during your application how the money will reach you — some awards pay students directly, others apply funds to tuition. Confirm this so you can plan your cash flow. There is no renewal: you apply again at the start of each term you need help.

Who qualifies

You must be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident or protected person in an undergraduate degree program at Trent, and you must show demonstrated financial need. To qualify, you must be in receipt of OSAP (the Ontario Student Assistance Program — the provincial government's financial aid for students), Canada part time student loans, First Nations band funding, or funding from the government financial aid program of your home province. These bursaries are meant to supplement funding from other sources and help you cover unexpected expenses during your study period.
