About this award

Depending on the award, you can receive between $2,500 and $15,000 per year. Automatic entrance scholarships range from $2,500 to $5,500 annually, with a total potential of $10,000 to $22,000 over four years. High-value prestigious awards can reach $15,000 per year or $60,000 over a four-year degree. Specifically, the Moore Family International Scholarship offers up to $12,000 annually ($48,000 total), the Justin Chiu International Scholarship offers up to $15,000 annually ($60,000 total), and the IB Student Award provides up to $1,000 for one student. As these are scholarships, they are not loans, so you do not have to pay them back. This is for you if you are an international student coming to Canada on a study permit for an undergraduate degree at Trent with a final high school average of 80% or higher; the prestigious awards also look at leadership, community service and some financial need. Automatic entrance scholarships are processed with your admission. For the International Prestigious Scholarships, you must apply through the Trent Applicant Portal between November 1 and February 15 each year by 11:59 p.m. EST. No notification date is posted, so ask Trent International (international@trentu.ca) when decisions come out. Automatic awards are based on your final high school average. Prestigious awards are highly competitive and chosen based on academic achievement, community service, leadership potential, and some financial need. Funds are applied directly to your Trent Applicant Portal account statement. Automatic awards arrive close to the start of your first term. Prestigious awards are applied one week after the first day of classes for your semester. Because the money goes to your student account, it reduces the amount you need to pay out of pocket for tuition and fees. To keep your entrance scholarship, you must reapply each year and maintain a minimum 80% average in a full course load during the previous academic year. Other renewal conditions aren't listed — if you're counting on this for multiple years, confirm with Trent University whether it's one-time or renewable and what you need to maintain.

Who qualifies

To qualify, you must be an international student paying international fees and studying in Canada on a study permit. You must have applied to an undergraduate degree program at Trent University; postgraduate certificates and graduate-level students are not eligible. You must meet all admission requirements, including English Language Proficiency Requirements, and have a final Canadian equivalent high school average of 80% or higher. You must also fulfill your offer letter conditions, register for courses, and pay your first-year Fall and Winter term fees. For the International Prestigious Scholarships, you must start your program in the spring/summer (May/June) or fall (September) terms; students starting in January are not eligible.
