About this award

Depending on your grades, you can receive $1,000 if your admission average is between 90.0% and 94.9%, or $2,000 if your average is 95.0% and greater. This is a scholarship, not a loan, so you do not have to pay it back. This is for you if you are a high-achieving student entering university for the first time and want your academic excellence recognized with financial support. No specific application deadline is posted publicly for the automatic awards — however, you should apply for admission early in the calendar year. If you do not receive an offer initially, you will be re-considered in May and August to see if you qualify or can better your award. The awards office emails every entrance award offer before the end of May. To also be considered for need-based entrance awards, complete the Entrance Financial Need Assessment Form by April 15. Winners are chosen automatically based on the admission average calculated by Admission Services. Every eligible student at 90.0% or above is considered automatically, and the scholarship offer comes with your offer of admission. The scholarship is paid in two equal payments applied to your University of Guelph student account toward fall and winter tuition. This scholarship is for your first year only, and you must be registered full-time in both fall and winter to get the full amount. You can hold it with other U of G entrance scholarships, except the President's Scholarship, the Lincoln Alexander Chancellor's Scholarship and the Board of Governors' Scholarship.

To qualify for the automatic entrance scholarships, you must be a Canadian citizen or permanent resident of Canada and be entering post-secondary studies for the first time with a minimum 90.0% admission average.
