About this award

In 2024-25, the University of Guelph gave out $3 million in entrance need-based awards, ranging from $500 to $50,000. Bursaries are based on financial need. A bursary is not a loan, so you do not have to pay it back. This is for you if you are a Canadian citizen or permanent resident starting post-secondary studies for the first time at the University of Guelph, and your savings, government student aid, other awards and job income will not cover the cost of your studies. Your grades are not considered. Complete the Entrance Financial Need Assessment Form by April 15. You do not need an offer of admission to fill it in. The awards office emails you before the end of May to confirm every entrance award you are being offered, with its value and conditions. Some entrance awards ask for an application in addition to the Entrance Financial Need Assessment Form. Use the university's award search to find them. You must be registered in an academic term to receive a bursary. The page does not say how entrance bursaries are paid, so ask the Student Awards office (awards@uoguelph.ca). If you have already studied at a college or university, you cannot get entrance awards; you can apply for the university's in-course bursaries instead.

Who qualifies

You must be a Canadian citizen or permanent resident of Canada, and you must be entering post-secondary studies for the first time. Bursaries go to students who apply and show a financial shortfall in their budget for the study period: the university compares all your resources, such as savings, government student aid, awards and job income, with the cost of attending. Academic achievement is not considered. International students are not eligible for bursaries.
