About this award

You can receive up to $17,000 over 4 years. In your first year, the award ranges from $1,000 to $5,000 depending on your admission average: $5,000 for 95% or higher, $4,000 for 90–94.9%, $3,000 for 85–89.9%, $2,000 for 80–84.9% and $1,000 for 75–79.9%. For the following 3 years, you can receive renewal awards ranging from $1,000 to $4,000 each year. This is a scholarship, not a loan, so you do not have to pay it back. This is for you if you are a Canadian high school student—either currently enrolled or already graduated—who is applying for admission to the university. No specific application deadline is posted publicly because you are automatically considered. Before you start your admission process, check University of Guelph-Humber's program page or call their office to confirm the final dates for admission applications this year. You are automatically considered for this award based on your admission average. Selection is tied to your offer of admission; if your offer of admission includes a scholarship estimate, you will receive at least that amount as long as you meet the conditions of your offer. Your marks are re-assessed in July after final grades arrive, and your amount may increase, but it will not go down. The scholarship is credited to your University account in two equal payments, one at the start of the fall semester and one at the start of the winter semester. You are considered automatically for renewal in each of the three years after admission. The renewal amount depends on your cumulative fall and winter average in the year before: $4,000 for 95% or higher, $3,000 for 90–94.9%, $2,000 for 85–89.9% and $1,000 for 80–84.9%. You must carry a full-time course load in both the fall and winter semesters. If you miss renewal one year, you can still qualify in a later year if your average rises into these levels.

Who qualifies

You must be a Canadian high school applicant (either currently enrolled or a graduate) with an admission average of at least 75%. You must be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident or protected person entering your first year of post-secondary studies for the first time, with a full-time course load in the fall and winter. This scholarship cannot be held with the Founders' Academic Merit Scholarship or the Vice-Provost Entrance Scholarship.

Tips for applying

  • GradesAvoid worrying if your initial offer estimate seems low. Instead, focus on achieving the highest possible marks in your final term. Your scholarship amount is re-assessed in July and can only go up based on your final grades.
  • StrategyAvoid treating the offer estimate as a ceiling. Instead, view it as a floor. Since the amount can only increase or stay the same, use the estimate for your baseline budgeting while aiming higher.
  • RealismAvoid forgetting that the award amounts change each year. Instead, plan for the fact that the first-year amount differs from the renewal amounts in years two, three, and four.
