University of Saskatchewan Indigenous Student with Dependent Children Bursary

What you will need

• ✓ Indigenous affiliation
• ✓ Dependent children
• ✓ Enrollment at the University of Saskatchewan

About this award

The funder does not post a fixed dollar amount for this bursary. Instead, the amount you receive increases in direct correlation to the number of your dependents. To calculate the payment, the total available funds are divided by the total number of student dependents. As a bursary, this money is yours to keep — there is nothing to repay. Approximately 45% of the total funds will be disbursed in the fall term and 55% will be distributed in the winter term. This is for you if you are an Indigenous student at the University of Saskatchewan who is balancing your education while raising children. You can apply for this bursary in each term. The deadlines are August 1, November 1, and February 1. When you apply, ask the University of Saskatchewan how and when you will hear back — whether it is via email, a student portal, or phone. Selection criteria aren't published — ask University of Saskatchewan how winners are chosen and roughly how many applicants they typically receive so you can judge your odds. Ask University of Saskatchewan during your application how the money will reach you — some awards pay students directly, others apply funds to tuition. Confirm this so you can plan your cash flow. Renewal conditions aren't listed — if you're counting on this for multiple years, confirm with University of Saskatchewan whether it's one-time or renewable and what you need to maintain.

Tips for applying

• SupportAvoid failing to notify your academic advisor about your needs. Instead, coordinate with campus childcare and student services to show you have a stable plan for managing school and parenting.
• StrategyAvoid applying only once a year. Since you are eligible to apply in each term, set calendar alerts for the August 1, November 1, and February 1 deadlines to maximize your funding.
• RealismAvoid treating this as a guaranteed flat fee. Because the amount depends on the total pool of funds and the number of other applicants with children, treat this as supplemental support rather than your primary tuition source.
