As these are scholarships and awards, the money is yours to keep and you do not have to pay it back. This is for you if you are a continuing undergraduate student who maintains a strong academic record while attending the University of Victoria in the regular Winter Session. For awards that require an application, the online portal is open from February 15 to April 30. If you are applying through a specific department, deadlines vary. Successful recipients are notified by email from Student Awards and Financial Aid and accept the offer in Online tools. Winners are chosen through three main paths: automatic selection based on academic merit, a formal application process, or a recommendation from your department. Scholarships, medals and prizes go mainly on academic merit; other awards use the criteria in each award's terms of reference, which may include financial need, program of study or varsity sport. Funding is generally applied directly toward your assessed tuition and fees for the winter session (September to April). If the award is more than your tuition and fees, the balance is paid to you, provided you maintain your required unit count. Contact the Tuition Office to request a refund if this happens. Medals or book prizes are forwarded to you when available. To keep your funding, you must normally register and maintain enrolment in a minimum of 12.0 units for credit (with 10.5 units graded on the standard nine point scale) in two of the three terms of the academic year. If you withdraw from courses and fall below this limit, your award will be revoked. Renewal conditions aren't listed — if you're counting on this for multiple years, confirm with the University of Victoria whether it's one-time or renewable.

Who qualifies

You must be an undergraduate student attending the University of Victoria in the regular Winter Session. Normally, you must be a full-time student registered in a minimum of 12 units for credit in two of the three terms of study in the 12 month (May to April) period immediately preceding the award. Of these, 10.5 units must be graded using the standard nine point scale. If you have a disability, you are eligible to be considered even with a reduced course load. You must maintain registration in a minimum of 6.0 units for credit, of which 4.5 units are graded using the standard nine point scale, in two of the three terms in the previous academic year (May to April). For athletic awards, returning student athletes must have passed a minimum of 9.0 units for credit with a minimum sessional GPA (Grade Point Average — the average of your final grades) of 3.00 in the preceding September to August terms. New student athletes who have never played varsity sport at a post-secondary institution are not required to meet a minimum admission average. For First Nations, Metis, and Inuit (including Jay Treaty) awards, you must provide supporting information confirming your connection with your Nation or community.
