About this award

You can receive a Doctoral Entrance Award worth $30,000, paid as $2,500 over 12 terms, or a Master’s Research Entrance Award worth $7,500, paid as $2,500 over 3 terms. This is a scholarship, not a loan, so you do not have to pay it back. This is for you if you are a high-achieving student entering a research-focused graduate program and want to offset your tuition and living costs. You must submit your full application package by the individual program's deadline or the entrance scholarship deadline, whichever comes first. No specific calendar date is posted publicly — before you start the application, check University of Windsor's program page or call their office to confirm when applications open and close this year. Winners are chosen based on the recommendation of your specific academic program. Selection criteria aren't published — ask University of Windsor how winners are chosen and roughly how many applicants they typically receive so you can judge your odds. The money is paid automatically to your student account at the start of each term if you are registered. To ensure this works, you must provide your Social Insurance Number (SIN) through the UWinsite (the University of Windsor's internal student portal) profile section for tax reporting purposes. To keep this scholarship, you must be continuously registered as a full-time student and maintain a cumulative average of 80% or better. You also need to register by the posted late registration deadline each term and maintain satisfactory academic progress as confirmed annually by your supervisor and Graduate Coordinator.

Who qualifies

You are eligible if you are a Canadian or International full-time applicant to a research-based program with an admission average of at least 80% (or equivalent). You cannot hold this award if you also receive the OGS (the Ontario Graduate Scholarship — a provincial award for academic excellence) or the QEII-GSST (the Queen Elizabeth II Graduate Scholarship in Science and Technology — a provincial award for STEM research). You are NOT eligible if you are in any of the following programs: Master of Actuarial Science, Master of Applied Computing, Master of Applied Economics and Policy, Master of Arts – Criminology (Coursework), Master of Arts – English (Coursework), Master of Arts – Philosophy (Coursework), Master of Arts – Sociology (Coursework), Master of Business Administration, Master of Arts - Economics, Master of Education (Online, Coursework), Master of Engineering, Master of Engineering Management (Online and In-person), Master of Management, Master of Materials Chemistry and Engineering, Master of Medical Biotechnology, Master of Science – Physics (Coursework), Master of Science - Nursing (Coursework, Nurse Practitioner), Master of Social Work (MSW, MSW/JD), Master of Social Work for Working Professionals, Master of Sport Management and Leadership (Internship), or Master of Science in Translational Health Sciences.
