What you will need

About this award

You get $8,000 per year for 4 years, totaling $32,000. This is a bursary, not a loan, so you do not have to pay it back. This is for you if you are a Canadian high school student attending James Cardinal McGuigan Secondary School, Emery Collegiate Institute, CW Jeffrey's Collegiate Institute, or Westview Centennial Secondary School. You must apply by April 1. You will be notified by email between May and June if you have been selected as a recipient. One student from each of the four schools receives it each year, and the schools choose the recipient; it is a need-based bursary. Ask your school how its candidate is chosen. The money is applied directly to your York Student Account and will be reflected on your August statement. Confirm with York University if there are any other ways the funds are handled. The bursary is renewable for three more years (four in total). It cannot be held together with another renewable entrance scholarship, the York University Automatic Entrance Scholarship or the York University Continuing Student Scholarship.

Who qualifies

To qualify, you must be an incoming student from one of these local high schools: James Cardinal McGuigan Secondary School, Emery Collegiate Institute, CW Jeffrey's Collegiate Institute, or Westview Centennial Secondary School. You must be less than 21 years old by the end of the calendar year in which you are admitted to the university. Additionally, you must have been out of full-time high school studies for less than two years from your high school graduation date and you must not have attempted studies at an accredited college or university.
