About this award

You get $8,400 per year for 4 years, which is a total of $33,600. This is a scholarship, not a loan, so you do not have to pay it back. This is for you if you are a Canadian high school student moving directly into an undergraduate degree and want a significant financial boost for your entire degree. No separate application is required for this specific scholarship because you are automatically considered if you enter a direct-entry undergraduate program from high school. However, if you are applying for other awards, the MyFile (York University's student portal) application opens December 1 and generally closes April 1, though some awards close as early as February 15. You will be notified by email or letter between May and June if you are selected. York gives President’s Scholarships to the high school applicants with the highest entrance averages, chosen on academic merit. You cannot hold it together with another renewable entrance scholarship or the York University Automatic Entrance Scholarship. Funding is automatically applied to your York Student Account and will show up on your August statement. Ask York University during your application if there are any other specific steps to ensure the funds reach your account. It renews for three more years if you keep a sessional grade point average of 8.00 and register in at least 18 credits in the fall/winter session. Once you lose it, you cannot get it back.

Who qualifies

To qualify, you must be a Canadian high-school applicant. Specifically, you must be less than 21 years old by the end of the calendar year in which you are admitted (for example, by December 31 for a Fall term). You must have been out of full-time high school studies for less than two years since your graduation date, and you must not have previously attempted studies at an accredited college or university. You must also be entering a first-year direct-entry undergraduate program directly from high school, and it goes only to the applicants with the highest entrance averages.
