York University Renewable Entrance Athletic Scholarship

About this award

You can receive between $1,000 and $5,000 per year for up to 5 years. If your tuition and compulsory fees come to less than $5,000, the award is capped at that amount. This is a scholarship, not a loan, so you do not have to pay it back. This is for you if you are a student-athlete coming from a Canadian high school who intends to play for a York University interuniversity team. The application deadline is April 1. You will be notified by email between May and June if you have been selected as a recipient. York set up this scholarship to support athletic and academic excellence. It does not publish how many are given each year, so ask the head coach about your chances. You can hold it with other merit scholarships, but all your funding that is based on athletic ability cannot add up to more than $5,000 (or your tuition and compulsory fees) a year. Your award will be applied directly to your York Student Account and will show up on your August statement. To keep it in later years, you must still meet the current OUA/U SPORTS eligibility rules for athletic financial awards.

Who qualifies

You must be a domestic (not international) Canadian high-school applicant entering full-time undergraduate study at York, and you must plan to play for one of York's interuniversity teams. To qualify as a high school applicant, you must be less than 21 years old by the end of the calendar year in which you are admitted to the university (for example, if you start in the Fall, you must be under 21 by December 31). You must also have been out of full-time high school studies for less than two years from your graduation date and must not have previously attempted studies at an accredited college or university.
