About this award

You can win one of four awards valued at $1,500 each. Usually, two awards go to students in a diploma program and two go to students in a degree program. However, if no applications arrive for one of those paths in a given year, all four scholarships will be awarded to students in the program that actually received applications. As a scholarship, this money is yours to keep and you do not have to pay it back. This is for you if you are an Alberta resident pursuing a post-secondary education in a field related to agriculture. You must apply between August 1 and October 31. No specific notification date is posted publicly — when you apply, ask Government of Alberta (Alberta Student Aid) how and when you will hear back, whether by email, phone, or through your online portal. Winners are selected based on their academic achievement and their enrollment in an agriculture-related discipline during the previous year of undergraduate study at an Alberta institution. Selection criteria aren't published in detail — ask Government of Alberta (Alberta Student Aid) how many applicants they typically receive so you can judge your odds. The scholarship is issued after Government of Alberta (Alberta Student Aid) confirms that you are enrolled full-time at a post-secondary institution. Ask Government of Alberta (Alberta Student Aid) during your application if the money is sent directly to your bank account or applied to your tuition so you can plan your cash flow. Renewal conditions aren't listed — if you are counting on this for multiple years, confirm with Government of Alberta (Alberta Student Aid) whether it is a one-time award or if you can apply again in future years.

Who qualifies

To qualify, you must be a Canadian Citizen, Permanent Resident of Canada, or have refugee or protected-person status in Canada. You must also be an Alberta resident. To meet the residency rule, one of these must be true: your parent or legal guardian lived in Canada for 12 consecutive months immediately before you started school and lives in Alberta; Alberta is the last place you lived for 12 consecutive months immediately before starting school; or your spouse or partner is an Alberta resident. Additionally, you must have attended the fall and winter terms in the previous academic year and be currently enrolled full-time in the second or subsequent year of undergraduate study in a diploma or degree program at an Alberta publicly funded post-secondary institution in a discipline related to agriculture.

  • StrategyAvoid using your school email address to set up your account. Instead, use a personal email address for your Alberta.ca account. This ensures you don't lose access to your funding information after you graduate.
  • RealismAvoid assuming this is a guaranteed grant. Instead, remember that only four awards are available across the whole province for both diploma and degree students. Focus your application on highlighting your specific academic achievements in agriculture.
