What you will need

• ✓ Complete the University of Manitoba Entrance Bursary application through the Financial Aid and Awards card in Aurora by July 31
• ✓ Show high financial need on that application form
• ✓ Be enrolled full-time (minimum 60% course load) in first year, with a minimum 70% average on the high school courses used for admission
• ✓ For the up to five bursaries for students with a permanent physical disability: registration with Student Accessibility Services

About this award

You can receive $1,000, renewable each consecutive year for up to three years. This is a bursary, not a loan, so you do not have to pay it back. This is for you if you are a first-year student at the University of Manitoba who has a strong financial need for support. You must apply by July 31. When you apply, ask the University of Manitoba how and when you will hear back—whether by email, phone, or through the Aurora portal. Recipients must show high financial need on the University of Manitoba Entrance Bursary application; up to five of these bursaries may go to students registered with Student Accessibility Services as having a permanent physical disability. The number of bursaries isn't published. The money is disbursed into your tuition fee account at the end of August. If the award covers more than your Fall Term tuition, the excess is applied to your Winter term tuition to reduce what you owe in early January. To keep this award for up to three years, you must maintain a full-time course load, achieve a minimum degree grade-point average of 2.5 each year, and continue to show financial need on the standard University of Manitoba Bursary application form.

Who qualifies

You qualify if you are enrolled full-time (minimum 60% course load) in your first year of study in University 1 or any faculty, college, or school at the University of Manitoba. You must have a minimum average of 70% on the high school courses used for your admission and demonstrate high financial need. International students in their first year of post-secondary study in Canada are not eligible. Note that up to five of these bursaries may be awarded to students who meet the criteria and are also registered with Student Accessibility Services as a student with a permanent physical disability.
