About this award

Depending on your points, you can receive one of seven award tiers. The points and amounts are set each year; as an example, in 2024/25, Tier 1 (43–44 points) is $3,500, Tier 2 (40–42 points) is $2,500, Tier 3 (37–39 points) is $2,200, Tier 4 (34–36 points) is $1,900, Tier 5 (31–33 points) is $1,600, Tier 6 (28–30 points) is $1,300, and Tier 7 (25–27 points) is $1,100. This is a scholarship, not a loan, so you do not have to pay it back. This is for you if you are starting university for the first time and have earned a full International Baccalaureate (IB — a global pre-university curriculum) Diploma. You must submit your undergraduate application for admission by the March 1 deadline. The University of Manitoba considers you automatically for this award. It typically receives IB results directly from the IB organization before September 1. Selection is based on your IB points and the annual tiers set by the school. There is no separate application form; the university reviews your diploma results automatically. The money is deposited directly into your tuition fee account at the end of August. If the award is more than your Fall term tuition, the rest goes toward your Winter term tuition to reduce what you owe in early January. You can manage this through the View My Student Aid section in Aurora (the University of Manitoba's student portal). To keep the money, you must enroll in both the upcoming fall and winter terms with a minimum of 24 credit hours (which is an 80% course load). If you drop a class and fall below 24 credit hours, the University of Manitoba can take back up to the full amount of the award.

Who qualifies

You can apply from any province or country. You must enter university for the first time using a full International Baccalaureate Diploma. This includes completing the Theory of Knowledge course, the extended essay, and the CAS (Creativity, Activity, Service — the extracurricular and community service part of the IB program) component. You also need a minimum grade of 4 or better on each of your three higher level and three subsidiary level papers. Finally, you must enroll in both the fall and winter terms with at least 24 credit hours.

• RealismAvoid assuming this is your only source of funding if you already have another entrance award. Instead, remember that if you have another University of Manitoba Entrance Scholarship that is equal to or higher than your IB tier, you won't get extra money. If your other award is lower, you only get the difference between the two.
