About this award

You get $2,000 as a one-time payment. This is a scholarship, not a loan, so you do not have to pay it back. This is for you if you are a high-achieving student graduating from a Canadian high school who is planning to start an undergraduate degree. You must submit and pay for your application by the admissions and scholarship deadline of March 1st. If you win, you will see the offer in your Aurora portal (the University of Manitoba's student system). Selection is automatic for new applicants based on your academic averages. There is no separate application form to fill out, but you must meet the grade thresholds to be considered. The money is sent directly to your tuition fee account at the end of August. If the $2,000 covers more than your fall tuition, the leftover amount is applied to your winter term tuition to reduce what you owe in early January. To keep the money, you must remain registered in both the fall and winter terms with at least an 80% course load, which is a minimum of 24 credit hours. If you drop a class and fall below 24 credit hours, the University of Manitoba can take back up to the full amount of the award.

Who qualifies

You qualify if you are graduating from a Canadian high school with an average greater than or equal to 90%, worked out over your best five courses from a pre-approved list in five different subject areas (85% is the minimum for any level of this scholarship; this level needs 90%). You must enroll in both the upcoming fall and winter terms in a minimum of 24 credit hours. If you are applying from outside Manitoba or Canada, the school will use a comparable level of academic standing to assess you. If you have taken a gap year, you are still eligible as long as you have completed less than 24 credit hours at a post-secondary institution.
