You can receive one of three scholarships of $5,000 from Government of Alberta (Alberta Student Aid), plus up to $5,000 of additional financial aid from Harvard College. As a scholarship, this money is yours to keep and you do not have to pay it back. This is for you if you are an outstanding student from Alberta who has achieved academic excellence and plans to study at Harvard College. You must apply between August 1 and December 15. When you apply, ask the Office of Admissions at Harvard College how and when you will be notified of the result — whether by email, portal, or phone. The Office of Admissions at Harvard College selects the recipients and sends their recommendations to Government of Alberta (Alberta Student Aid). Selection criteria aren't published — ask Government of Alberta (Alberta Student Aid) how winners are chosen and roughly how many applicants they typically receive so you can judge your odds. Ask Government of Alberta (Alberta Student Aid) during your application how the money will reach you — some awards pay students directly, others apply funds to tuition. Confirm this so you can plan your cash flow. Renewal conditions aren't listed — if you're counting on this for multiple years, confirm with Government of Alberta (Alberta Student Aid) whether it's one-time or renewable and what you need to maintain.
To qualify, you must be a Canadian citizen, a Permanent Resident of Canada, or have refugee or protected-person status in Canada. Visa students are not eligible. You must also be an Alberta resident. To meet the residency requirement, one of these must be true: one parent or legal guardian has lived in Canada for at least 12 consecutive months immediately before you start school and lives in Alberta; Alberta is the last place you lived for 12 consecutive months immediately before starting school; or your spouse or partner is an Alberta resident. Finally, you must be enrolled full-time in an undergraduate program at Harvard College.
