You can receive between $12,000 and $18,000 per year, depending on your program, for a total value of $48,000 to $72,000 over four years. This is a scholarship, not a loan, so you do not have to pay it back. This is for you if you are a high-achieving Canadian student with strong leadership skills and financial need, especially if you come from a rural or remote community. You must submit your application by December 8, 2026. You will see your results in your SOLUS (Student Online University System — the secure portal for your student records) Student Centre in late February. Selection is based on a combination of your academic ability, creative and original thinking, proven leadership, and financial need. Selection criteria aren't published in detail — ask Queen's University how winners are chosen and roughly how many applicants they typically receive so you can judge your odds. Ask Queen's University during your application how the money will reach you — some awards pay students directly, others apply funds to tuition. Confirm this so you can plan your cash flow. To keep this award for the three subsequent years, you must maintain a first class standing, which means achieving a GPA (Grade Point Average — a numerical representation of your average grade) of 3.5 in a full course load each year, and show that your financial need remains evident.
You must be a Canadian citizen, a permanent resident of Canada, or a Protected Person (someone with refugee or protected-person status in Canada). You can attend high school in Canada or internationally, and you can still apply if you are taking a gap year. To be competitive, you should have a cumulative average of 90% or higher throughout high school. This award is for full-time students entering the first year of any program at Queen's University. While open to all qualified Canadians, a preference will be given to students from rural and remote areas of Canada. If you receive a Queen's major admission award, you are not eligible for other merit-based scholarships.
