About this award

You can receive $18,000 per year for up to 4 years ($72,000 in total). This is a scholarship, not a loan, so you do not have to pay it back. This is for you if you are a high-achieving student from Quebec moving to Ontario for your undergraduate studies. There is no separate application or deadline: all Canadian citizens or permanent residents of Canada who live in Quebec and are offered admission to Queen's are considered. It is awarded on academic achievement, using the awards average Queen's calculates from your grades when you are offered admission. Preference goes to students whose address on admission is in the Quebec City metropolitan area or the Gulf Region (including Rimouski, Bonaventure, Gaspé-Est, Gaspé-Ouest and the Îles de la Madeleine). The number of awards varies. Ask Queen's University how the money will reach you — some awards pay students directly, others apply funds to tuition. Confirm this so you can plan your cash flow. It is renewable for 3 more years (4 in total) as long as you meet the requirements in Queen's Renewable Awards Policy; recipients get the renewal details from Queen's.

Who qualifies

You must be a Canadian Citizen or Permanent Resident of Canada and a resident of the province of Quebec. To qualify, you must be entering the first year of any first-entry undergraduate degree program and have an address on admission in the Province of Quebec. Selection is based on academic achievement. If you are in CEGEP, graduates of a 3-year professional/career CEGEP program who have their DEC are treated as transfer applicants and are not eligible for admission scholarships. A preference will be given to students whose address on admission is in the Quebec City metropolitan area, or the Gulf Region of Quebec’s 1940 Legislative Council, including Rimouski, Bonaventure, Gaspé-Est, Gaspé-Ouest, and the Îles de la Madeleine.

Tips for applying

  • Academic RecordAvoid focusing only on your final year grades. Instead, ensure your transcripts show your best performance across all required courses, as Queen's University uses a mix of Grade 11 and 12 marks depending on availability. Provide your most recent official transcripts to the admissions office.
  • StrategyAvoid ignoring the regional preference. Instead, clearly state your residential address on your admission application to ensure the committee sees you are from Quebec or the preferred regions like the Gulf Region. Double-check that your address is updated in the portal.
  • RealismAvoid counting on this award before Queen's confirms it. Instead, remember that the number of awards varies from year to year. Apply to other bursaries at Queen's University to diversify your funding options.
