About this award

The Major Admission Awards are a group of entrance scholarships at Queen's University. You submit one application (the MAA application) through SOLUS to be considered for every award in this group that you qualify for. The application opens in early October and closes December 8, 2026. Awards in this group range from $40,000 to $120,000 total over four years, depending on which one you receive and your program. The Bank of Montreal Award pays $40,000 to $72,000, the Chancellor's Scholarship pays $48,000, the Chernoff Family Award pays $48,000 to $72,000, and the Sobey Atlantic Award pays up to $120,000 for students from Atlantic provinces. Most awards renew for three additional years if you maintain a GPA of 3.5 in a full course load each year. Selection is based on superior academic ability, creative and original thinking, proven leadership, and involvement in school or community activities. Financial need is a factor for some awards (Bank of Montreal, Chernoff, Sobey). The Chancellor's Scholarship requires a nomination from your high school. You are expected to hold a cumulative high school average of 90% or higher to be competitive.

Who qualifies

You must be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident of Canada, or Protected Person. You may attend high school in Canada or internationally, and students taking a gap year can still apply. You must be entering the first year of an undergraduate program at Queen's; students in their second year of CEGEP are also eligible for the Chancellor's Scholarship. Some awards carry extra restrictions: the Sobey Atlantic Award requires you to reside in Nova Scotia, New Brunswick, Newfoundland and Labrador, or Prince Edward Island; the Chernoff Family Award gives preference to students from rural or remote areas of Canada. If you receive any of these awards, you will not be eligible for other merit-based scholarships at Queen's.

A cumulative average of 90% or higher throughout high school is expected if you want to be competitive in this group.

For the Chancellor's Scholarship, confirm with your high school that they will nominate you before the deadline.

You will need your High School Official's name and email address to submit the application, and you should follow up directly with that official to verify your nomination was recorded.

The practice application, available in early October, contains the exact questions from the online MAA application, and no additional questions appear.
