About this award

You can receive between $12,000 and $18,000 per year, for a total value of $48,000 to $72,000 depending on your program. This is a scholarship, not a loan, so you do not have to pay it back. This is for you if you have a record of superior academic ability and leadership, and you have stayed involved in your school and local community while facing financial need. You must submit your application by December 8, 2026. You will see your results in your SOLUS (Student On-Line University System — the secure portal for your student records) Student Centre in late February. Selection is based on a combination of your financial need, academic strength, leadership qualities, and community involvement. Selection criteria aren't published in detail — ask Queen's University how many applicants they typically receive so you can judge your odds. Ask Queen's University during your application how the money will reach you — some awards pay students directly, others apply funds to tuition. Confirm this so you can plan your cash flow. To keep this award for the three subsequent years, you must maintain a minimum GPA (Grade Point Average — the numerical average of your final grades) of 3.5 in a full course load each year and show that your financial need remains evident.

Who qualifies

You are eligible if you are entering the first year of any program at Queen's University and your permanent family residence is in Ontario. You must be a Canadian citizen, a permanent resident of Canada, or a Protected Person (someone with refugee or protected-person status in Canada). To be competitive, you should have a cumulative average of 90% or higher throughout high school. You may attend high school in Canada or internationally, and you can still apply if you are taking a gap year. Financial need is one of the criteria, and if you win you will not be eligible for other merit-based scholarships.

Tips for applying

  • LeadershipAvoid just listing the titles of the clubs you joined. Instead, describe one specific time your leadership helped your school or community improve. Give a concrete example of a project you led.
  • SupportAvoid treating the financial profile as optional. Instead, submit your Financial Aid and Awards Profile in the SOLUS Student Centre — it is required for this award, which considers financial need.
  • StrategyAvoid waiting until the last minute to apply for admission. You must apply to Queen's University via OUAC (the Ontario Universities Application Centre — the central system for university admissions) by November 20 to get your SOLUS login in time for the December 8 deadline.
  • RealismAvoid counting on this money if you are planning to defer your admission. While merit-based awards can sometimes be moved, any award that considers financial need cannot be deferred to a later year.
