About this award

For the Engineering International Admission Award, you can receive a renewable award of $10,000, $15,000, $20,000, or $25,000 per year for 4 years. This is a scholarship, not a loan, so you do not have to pay it back. This is for you if you are an international student entering the first year of an engineering degree at Queen's. You are considered automatically when you apply for admission, so there is no separate deadline to meet. Ask Queen's University how and when you will hear about a decision. Winners are chosen based on your academic achievement. Selection criteria aren't published — ask Queen's University how they weigh different grading systems and roughly how many students receive these awards each year so you can judge your odds. Ask Queen's University during your application how the money will reach you — some awards pay students directly, others apply funds to tuition. Confirm this so you can plan your cash flow. To keep the award for the full 4 years, you must continue to be registered full-time in a program of study within your original faculty of admission. Confirm with Queen's University if there is a minimum GPA you need to maintain to ensure the renewal.

Who qualifies

You must be an international student paying international student fees. Canadian citizens, including those with dual-citizenship, and permanent residents do not qualify. You must be entering the first year of post-secondary education for the first time, though graduates from a 2-year CEGEP (Collège d'enseignement général et professionnel — a pre-university college in Quebec) transferring into their second year at Queen's University remain eligible. You must be entering the first year of a first-entry undergraduate degree program in the Stephen J.R. Smith School of Engineering & Applied Science. For OSSD (Ontario Secondary School Diploma) students, the school looks at your 4U Level English and five additional 4U or 4M courses. For students in other Canadian provinces or territories, they look at Grade 12 academic subjects. For all other education systems, your average is calculated using the same criteria used for admission.
