About this award

You get $7,000 for 1 year only. This is a scholarship, not a loan, so you do not have to pay it back. Note that this award is not renewable for subsequent academic years. This is for you if you are a high-achieving student entering your first year of university and are among the top academic performers in your chosen field of study. There is no separate application: Queen’s considers you automatically, using an awards average calculated from the grades available when you are offered admission. Winners are chosen automatically based on academic excellence. You must be in the top 3% of the competitive admission average for your first-entry undergraduate degree program. The number of awards, and the average you need, vary by program and from year to year. Ask Queen's University during your application how the money will reach you — some awards pay students directly, others apply funds to tuition. Confirm this so you can plan your cash flow. It is paid for one year only and is not renewable.

Who qualifies

You must be eligible for admission to first year at Queen's University based on published requirements and pre-requisites. If you study in a U.S. curriculum, grade-based admission scholarships require a minimum unweighted GPA of 3.7 or 90%. This award is open to all first-entry undergraduate degree programs. If you are coming from a CEGEP (Collège d'enseignement général et professionnel — a pre-university college in Quebec), your eligibility depends on your stage: those in year one are judged on fall-term grades; those who completed year one are judged on their cumulative average; and those in year two or DEC (Diplôme d'études collégiales — a college diploma) graduates are judged on all academic courses. Physical education courses are excluded from these calculations. Please note that graduates of 3-year professional or career CEGEP programs who have their DEC are considered upper-year transfer applicants and are not eligible for this scholarship.

Tips for applying

Academic RecordAvoid worrying about which specific year your grades come from. Instead, ensure your most recent transcripts are sent to the school. Queen's University will prioritize Grade 12 marks, but will use Grade 11 courses if Grade 12 marks are not yet available.
