About this award

You can receive $10,000 per year for a total value of $40,000. This is a scholarship, not a loan, so you do not have to pay it back. It is renewable for 3 subsequent years (4 years total). This is for you if you are a high-achieving student from a publicly funded high school entering the Commerce program, especially if you are the first in your family to attend post-secondary school, had paid or unpaid work in your last two years of high school, or are disabled, Indigenous or a visible minority. You must apply by February 15. Queen's says to check your SOLUS Student Centre (the student online portal) to see if you have been selected for a bursary or award. Selection is based on academic achievement. There is only one award available, and it is given in an order of preference: first to students who are the first in their family to attend post-secondary school, then to students who had paid or unpaid work in their last two years of high school, then to students who are disabled, Indigenous or visible minority candidates. Ask Queen's University during your application how the money will reach you — some awards pay students directly, others apply funds to tuition. Confirm this so you can plan your cash flow. To keep this scholarship, you must remain a full-time student. You must maintain a minimum GPA (Grade Point Average — the average of your final grades) of 3.0 in the Bachelor of Commerce Program in your first year. In each subsequent year, you must maintain a minimum GPA of 3.5 in the Bachelor of Commerce Program.

Who qualifies

You must be a full-time student entering the first year of the Commerce program at Queen's University. You must have completed your secondary education in a publicly funded high school. Priority is given in the following order of preference: first, students who are the first generation in their families to attend a post-secondary institution; second, students who had paid or unpaid work in their last two years of high school; and third, students who are disabled, Indigenous, or visible minority candidates.
