About this award

Depending on the specific award, you can receive a $10,000 renewable award or a $15,000 renewable award. As a scholarship, this money is yours to keep and you do not have to pay it back. For the Health Sciences International Admission Award, the funding lasts for 4 years (your first year plus 3 renewals). This is for you if you are an international student with strong academic achievement who is starting the Bachelor of Health Sciences at Queen's University. You are considered automatically for these awards when you apply for admission, so there is no separate deadline to meet. Ask Queen's University how and when you will hear about a decision. Winners are chosen based on academic achievement. Selection criteria aren't published — ask Queen's University how they calculate the awards average for your specific education system and roughly how many applicants they typically receive so you can judge your odds. Ask Queen's University during your application how the money will reach you — some awards pay students directly, others apply funds to tuition. Confirm this so you can plan your cash flow. To keep the award, you must continue to be registered full-time in a program of study within your original faculty of admission. If you change faculties, you may lose the funding — confirm any specific GPA requirements with Queen's University.

Who qualifies

You must be an international student paying international student fees. You cannot apply if you are a Canadian citizen, a dual-citizen, a permanent resident, or an international student paying domestic fees. You must be entering the first year of the Bachelor of Health Sciences degree program in the Faculty of Health Sciences. If you are a graduate from a 2-year CEGEP (Collège d'enseignement général et professionnel — a pre-university college in Quebec) program transferring into your second year at Queen's, you remain eligible. For the Health Sciences International Admission Award, students in the Bachelor of Nursing program are not eligible.

Tips for applying

  • Academic RecordsAvoid assuming your grades will be converted automatically. Instead, check the Queen's University admissions page to see how they calculate averages for your specific country's school system. Contact the admissions office to clarify which specific courses they use for the calculation.
  • SupportAvoid waiting until after you are accepted to ask about funding. Instead, reach out to the international student office while your application is processing to confirm you are flagged for automatic consideration. This ensures no technical errors prevent you from being reviewed.
  • StrategyAvoid changing your intended faculty after you receive the award. Instead, choose your program carefully during the initial application. Because the award is tied to your original faculty of admission, switching majors could disqualify you from receiving the money in later years.
  • RealismAvoid counting on this money in your budget. Instead, remember that these are awarded based on academic achievement and are highly competitive. Plan your finances with the assumption that you may only receive partial funding or no award at all.
