About this award

You can receive $300. As a bursary, this money is yours to keep and you do not have to pay it back. This is for you if you are a full-time student from Canada who identifies as a Métis person and can show you have financial need. You must apply by October 1. Since the University of Manitoba does not publish a notification date, ask them when and how you will hear back about your application. Selection criteria aren't published — ask University of Manitoba how winners are chosen and roughly how many applicants they typically receive so you can judge your odds for this single award. Ask University of Manitoba during your application how the money will reach you — some awards pay students directly, others apply funds to tuition. Confirm this so you can plan your cash flow. Renewal conditions aren't listed — this award is marked as not renewable, but you should confirm with University of Manitoba if you can apply again in future years.

Who qualifies

To qualify, you must be a full-time student who has self-declared as a Métis person from Canada and can demonstrate financial need. You must complete courses in both the fall and winter terms. In most cases, you must register for and complete at least 60 percent of a full course-load per term, which is a minimum of 9 credit hours per term. If you are a graduate student, you do not have to meet the credit hour minimum as long as you are registered as full-time with the Faculty of Graduate Studies. Regarding grades, continuing students must have a minimum degree G.P.A. (Grade Point Average) of 2.0, while new students coming from high school must have a grade 12 average of 70% or higher. Students admitted on Mature Student Status may also be eligible. Note that international students in their first year of post-secondary study in Canada are not eligible.
