About this award

You get $10,000 CAD for this award. This is a scholarship, not a loan, so you do not have to pay it back. Because it is non-renewable, you receive this amount once. This is for you if you are an international student starting post-secondary studies for the first time at TMU in January, with good grades and a record of volunteering, clubs and leadership. The Winter 2027 round closed on September 14, 2026 (applications went through a Google Form). The form and deadline for the next winter intake are not posted yet — check TMU's international scholarships page or email awards@torontomu.ca. TMU looks for students who do well academically, volunteer, join clubs and show leadership qualities, and you must write a personal statement. Up to 20 students receive it. Ask Toronto Metropolitan University during your application how the money will reach you — some awards pay students directly, others apply funds to tuition. Confirm this so you can plan your cash flow. Renewal conditions aren't listed because this is an entrance-only award. Since it is non-renewable, you will not need to apply for it again in future years.

Who qualifies

You must be an international student enrolling in a post-secondary institution for the first time. You must be starting your first year of a full-time 4-year (or 5 year co-op) undergraduate degree at Toronto Metropolitan University (TMU) and paying international tuition fees when you start in January. You must have a final admission average of at least 86%, an A, or an equivalent. If you took a gap year, it may be no longer than one academic year. You must also have International Visa student status and authorization at the time you register and during the semester you begin studying at the school.

Tips for applying

  • Personal StatementAvoid writing a generic list of your grades. Instead, tell a specific story about a time you led a club or volunteered to help others. Describe the actual impact your leadership had on your community.
  • SupportAvoid writing your personal statement alone at the last minute. Instead, ask a teacher or club supervisor to read a draft and check that it shows your leadership clearly.
  • StrategyAvoid waiting until the last minute to fill out the Google Form. Instead, draft your personal statement in a separate document first so you can edit it carefully before submitting. Double-check that your admission average meets the 86% requirement before you start.
  • RealismAvoid counting on this award just because you have high grades. Instead, remember that only up to 20 students receive this funding. Apply for several other bursaries at Toronto Metropolitan University to ensure you have a safety net.
