About this award

You can receive between $12,000 and $18,000 per year, for a total value of $48,000 to $72,000 depending on your program. This is a scholarship, not a loan, so you do not have to pay it back. This is for you if you graduated from Westdale Secondary School in Hamilton, Ontario (or, if no Westdale candidate is eligible, you lived in the City of Hamilton when admitted), have a strong record of academic excellence and leadership, and have financial need. You must submit your application by December 8, 2026. You will find out if you won the award in late February by checking your SOLUS (Student On-Line University System — the secure portal for your student records) Student Centre. Winners are chosen on financial need, academic excellence and demonstrated leadership, with preference for Westdale Secondary School graduates. The number of awards varies each year, and recipients are not eligible for other merit-based scholarships. Ask Queen's University during your application how the money will reach you — some awards pay students directly, others apply funds to tuition. Confirm this so you can plan your cash flow. To keep this award for the three subsequent years, you must maintain a minimum GPA (Grade Point Average — a number that represents your average grade) of 3.0 in your first year and a minimum GPA of 3.5 in each following year while taking a full course load.

Who qualifies

You must be a full-time student entering the first year of any direct entry undergraduate program. You must be a Canadian citizen, a permanent resident of Canada, or a Protected Person (someone with refugee or protected-person status in Canada). While you can attend high school in Canada or internationally, you should have a cumulative average of 90% or higher throughout high school to be competitive. A preference will be given to students who are graduates from Westdale Secondary School in Hamilton, Ontario. If no eligible candidates are found from Westdale Secondary School, the award is open to students who were residents of the City of Hamilton, Ontario on admission to Queen's University.
