About this award

You get $3,000 as payment. This is a scholarship, not a loan, so you do not have to pay it back. This is for you if you are a high-achieving student graduating from a Canadian high school who is planning to start an undergraduate degree. You must submit and pay for your application by the March 1st admissions and scholarship deadline. If you win, you accept your award in Aurora through View My Student Aid on the Financial Aid and Awards card. Selection is automatic for new applicants based on your academic averages. For students applying in the same year they graduate, the University of Manitoba uses your interim grades (a mix of final grades from the first semester and midterm grades for current courses) to decide. Offers are not adjusted based on your final grades later. The money is deposited directly into your tuition fee account at the end of August. If the $3,000 is more than your fall tuition, the leftover amount is applied to your winter term tuition to reduce what you owe in early January. To keep the money, you must remain registered in both the fall and winter terms with at least an 80% course load, which is a minimum of 24 credit hours. If you drop a class and fall below 24 credit hours, the University of Manitoba can take back up to the full amount of the award.

Who qualifies

You must be graduating from a Canadian high school with an average of 95% or higher, calculated over your best five courses from the pre-approved list in five different subject areas. If you are from outside Manitoba or Canada, the school will use a comparable level of academic standing to assess you. If you have already graduated and took gap years, you are still eligible as long as you have completed less than 24 credit hours at a post-secondary institution.

How to apply

  2. Submit your application

Save a copy, and submit at least a day before the deadline shown above.

Tips for applying

  • Course SelectionAvoid using courses that aren't on the pre-approved list. Instead, check the UM (University of Manitoba) Academic 40S Course Guide and only use courses highlighted in blue to calculate your average. This ensures your grades actually count toward the scholarship.
  • Credit LoadAvoid dropping classes early in the year without checking your totals. Instead, ensure you stay registered for at least 24 credit hours across both the fall and winter terms. Call 204-474-9534 if you aren't sure if a withdrawal will put your funding at risk.
  • StrategyAvoid waiting until the last minute to pay your application fee. Instead, complete the entire submission process well before March 1st. Since consideration is automatic, your only task is to ensure your application is fully processed by the deadline.
  • RealismAvoid assuming your final grades will increase your award amount. Instead, focus on having the strongest interim grades possible at the time of the offer. Remember that the University of Manitoba does not adjust these scholarship offers once they are made.
