About this award

You get a $2,500 scholarship. This is a grant, not a loan, so you do not have to pay it back. This is for you if you are a high school student in the Niagara Region who balances excellent grades with a strong commitment to your school and local community. In the 2026 cycle, the application was open from January 5, 2026 to 11:59 p.m. on April 1, 2026, and late applications were not accepted. Principals then endorsed up to five students by April 13, 2026, and Brock University notifies successful applicants by the end of April. Your school principal selects the nominees. Each principal can nominate up to five candidates from their school, and from those nominations, two students will be awarded the scholarship. Selection is based on your academic achievement, extracurricular activities, and citizenship contributions, though financial need may also be considered. Ask Brock University during your application how the money will reach you — some awards pay students directly, others apply funds to tuition. Confirm this so you can plan your cash flow. Renewal conditions aren't listed — if you're counting on this for multiple years, confirm with Brock University whether it's one-time or renewable and what you need to maintain.

Who qualifies

You must be a student in a Niagara Region high school; this includes international students who are studying in a Niagara Region high school. To qualify, you need a minimum 80 per cent average. You must also apply for admission, be admitted to, and register at Brock University to receive the money.

Tips for applying

  • BiographyAvoid writing a generic list of your clubs and sports. Instead, tell a story about how your specific contributions helped your school or community grow. Focus on the impact you made rather than just the titles you held.
  • SupportAvoid waiting until the last minute to talk to your principal. Instead, schedule a meeting now to ensure they know your goals and achievements before they choose their five nominees. Give them a clean copy of your resume to help their decision.
  • StrategyAvoid ignoring the other Brock University admission steps. Instead, prioritize your main application via OUAC (the Ontario Universities' Application Centre — the central portal used to apply to Ontario universities) immediately. You cannot get this scholarship if you aren't registered as a student.
  • RealismAvoid assuming a nomination means you will get the money. Instead, remember that while five students per school are nominated, only two students will be awarded the $2,500. Treat this as a great bonus but keep looking for other funding options.
